Alaskan Beach Rocks
These are RAW Alaskan Beach Rocks for tumbling, crafting, or decorating collected from beaches on the Kenai Peninsula, primarily in Homer. Alaska’s dynamic glacial and volcanic history makes its beaches excellent for rockhounding. Common finds on our beaches include:
- Agates (especially on the Kenai Peninsula)
- Chalcedony
- Jasper in reds and browns and yellows
- Quartz (often veined through darker rock),
- Greywacke & Argillite are durable, dark, and fine-grained sedimentary rocks often feature contrasting white quartz veins.
- Rhyolite: A common igneous rock that often has a gritty texture. It comes in a range of colors, with grey and brown being the most frequent, and is sometimes confused with sandstone.
- Jade (Nephrite): Alaska’s state gem.
- Fossils: ancient marine fossils, coral, and coal-leaf imprints preserved in limestone, marble, or shale.
- Volcanic Rocks & Garnets: Fast-cooled igneous rocks and dark sands (composed of minerals like ilmenite and hornblende)
- Petrified wood
There is no guarantee as to what mother nature will provide when you order these, however we do our absolute best to find you eye catching rocks. These rocks look especially striking when wet or polished. They will come to you in their RAW and unpolished form just as they washed up on shore.
River and beach rocks are incredibly versatile for home and garden projects. Use them to build functional drainage systems like dry riverbeds to prevent erosion, create low-maintenance garden borders that replace mulch, border outdoor fire pits, or line ponds and water features. Add these to your walkways or garden pathways or in water Features by lining the bottoms of fountains, ponds, and waterfalls with mixed polished pebbles to achieve a calming, naturalized aesthetic. You can also tumble or polish these beautiful rocks and use them in your crafts or jewelry making.
You will receive 2.5 lbs of raw rocks per order.
