(Lactuca sativa)

Bibb Butterhead Lettuce is a loose headed variety known for its velvety soft leaves and mild slightly sweet flavor. First developed in Kentucky in the 1850s, it takes about 55 to 65 days to mature and is best grown in cool temperatures.

·        Cultivation: It can be grown from seeds or transplants and requires consistent moisture. It is also highly container-friendly, thriving in small pots and indoor hydroponic systems.

·        Nutritional Profile: It is packed with vitamins A, C, and B6, alongside essential minerals like calcium and iron.

·        Soil & Spacing: Plant in full sun to partial shade. If using transplants, space them about 6 to 8 inches apart to give the loose heads room to breathe and mature.

·        Moisture: Lettuce is shallow-rooted and needs consistently moist, well-draining soil to prevent the plant from bolting (going to seed) prematurely.

·        Harvesting: You can pick individual outer leaves as needed or harvest the entire head by cutting it at the base.
