(Lactuca sativa)
Red Salad Bowl is an heirloom oak leaf, variety that has burgundy, deeply lobed leaves with a mild sweet flavor. It matures quickly (28 days for baby greens, 50-55 days full size) and is highly prized for its "cut-and-come-again" harvesting.
Bolting Resistance: Highly resistant to bolting (going to seed in warm weather), though its deepest color develops in cooler temperatures (60°F–70°F).
Nutritional Value: Rich in anthocyanins (healthy antioxidants), as well as vitamins A and K.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun but benefits from partial shade in hot summer climates to prevent bitterness.
Planting: Seeds should be sown1/4 inch deep. Keep the soil evenly moist.
Spacing: Space mature plants about 8-12 inches apart, but you can sow thickly to harvest young baby greens.
Harvesting: Regularly pick the outer leaves to encourage continuous growth throughout the season.
