Buttercrunch is a popular Bibb-type butterhead lettuce known for its compact loosely wrapped heads of tender dark green leaves with a creamy yellow, crisp heart. Developed at Cornell University in 1963, it is highly prized for its sweet, buttery flavor without bitterness.
Texture: Soft, fan-shaped outer leaves with a surprisingly crisp, thick, and juicy core.
Growth: Reaches 8 to 9 inches across and matures in about 50 to 65 days.
Climate: Thrives in cool, moist weather but is more heat-tolerant and bolt-resistant than most other butterhead varieties.
Harvesting: You can pick the outer leaves continuously as the plant grows, or cut the entire head off at the base when it’s fully mature.
